Superior training and devoted teachers
Sep 3, 2009
Now, I've only been training at this dojo for about seven months which, practically speaking isn't very long. And yet it's difficult to describe everything I've learned here. I don't mean just techniques for combat. See, at NWMA you learn a great deal about yourself and how you work with the art(s) of your choice with perseverance, self awareness, community and ki development. But also, of course, you'll definitely learn how to fight, you'll learn that very well with some time and devotion! Now some of these things could be said about basically any legitimate martial art. What makes this dojo unique and fosters these qualities are the instructors. Their experience and capabilities in Japanese martial arts are so vast and so well founded that I just wish I could learn everything from them collectively. They don't have an elitist attitude, they're very understanding of how difficult training can be sometimes, and they'll go to great lengths to help you improve your arts. Most importantly, they won't flatter a student's weakness by simply letting them pass a test, or pretending the student knows what they're doing if it's clear they haven't been training. This definitely isn'ta place that hands out ranks indiscriminately. That, and the reasons above is why I highly recommend this dojo to anyone who is serious about learning self defense.
Great dojo, excellent teachers

I'm extremely happy to say that I've been a part of this dojo and community for over a year now. I started here with very little knowledge of martial arts and absolutely no experience, and they made me feel completely welcomed. My intentions when I first joined were to find a good form of exercise (other than the gym) and also learn practical self-defense. NW Martial Arts has definitely provided these things and much more. The instructors are very skilled, knowledgeable, and helpful, and have a way of keeping each lesson new and interesting. I'm especially grateful that a lot of the concepts taught are very helpful in improving my everyday life – for instance, our constant focus on proper balance and posture will definitely help reduce my risk of back and knee problems as I get older. I've learned much more than I ever imagined I would in only a year and am excited to say that I've found a hobby I can have for the rest of my life. NW Martial Arts has my highest recommendation.
My favorite Dojo

I really enjoy going to this dojo. I have taken three different disciplines there and the instructors are great. As a woman they make me feel as welcome as any of the other students and push me to improve my skills. The instruction is clear and the atmosphere is informal, but not casual. Try it out - the first class is free!
You'll love it here and learn a ton

Since my wife and I walked past NW Martial Arts one evening nearly two years ago, we've been hooked. I'd taken karate once before, but it was nothing like this. The instructors are incredibly dedicated and talented. After every class I think how lucky we are to learn from them. One of the things I like best is how all the arts are inter-related. Karate and aikido, for instance are different--but here you learn how they compliment each other. It makes you a more well-rounded student. Another plus: great people! There's a good mix of advanced and beginner; young (teens and twenties) and old (30-somethings like me and a few older folks, too); men and women. Everyone's there to learn and have fun. From what I can tell, there are no jerks there to show off. I can't recommend NW Martial Arts enough. It's a great deal, too, considering you can train almost every day of the week if you want for about a $100/month.
Martial Arts for the family

What a great school. My daughter 12 and youngest son 10 started going and after about 4 months my oldest son 19 and I started going. Then after about 2 months my wife decided to try. It has been a great experience for the whole family. A couple of things that we like is the different types of training ( Karate, Aikido, Aikijutsu and Jujutsu) and the times they offer. It works well with our busy schedule. I would recommend them to anyone.
